Flynn Family are everywhere, even outside Flynn itself. Over the years, our people have worked hard to build strong relationships with external partners. Here is a story about building such relationships that will warm your heart.

The rescue

Flynn the Cub, the latest addition to the Flynn Family.

When PCL superintendent Roger Stearns started Manitoba’s first and so far only black bear rescue, he turned to his longtime partners at Flynn Winnipeg for support. Having built a strong relationship with Flynn over several decades, Roger knew he could count on Flynn.

Roger’s rescue includes indoor and outdoor enclosures where young bears can learn survival skills before being released. The aim is to prepare bears for the wild, not turning them into zoo animals.

Winnipeg Branch Manager Tyler Tomlinson and his crew supplied Roger with metal siding and cladding for the rescue’s enclosures. The enclosures were made with chain link fence for the lower part and cladding on the upper part.

In exchange for supplying building materials and employee time, Roger named a cub after Flynn. On top of that, Flynn Winnipeg employees got to name the two other cubs.

Partner up

This type of work makes Flynn’s relationships stronger and more natural.

“If you know somebody outside work, the conversations for work are much easier,” Tyler explains. “You get to know them personally, understand where they’re coming from and what they want, rather than just having a pure business relationship.”

Flynn Winnipeg has won the 2019 Flynn Manufacturing Safety Award.

Apart from their great work building strong external partnerships, the Winnipeg branch contributes to Flynn’s mission of safety for everyone. Flynn Winnipeg is the proud winner of the 2019 Manufacturing Safety Award presented every year to the Flynn shop with the best health and safety record. Keep an eye on the Flynn Crew website in the next few weeks to read more about Winnipeg’s win.

For reference, Flynn Winnipeg does roofing, glazing, metals and service. They also maintain a large manufacturing facility. In total, the branch employs 180 people between the office, field and shop.
