The curtain wall system for the Bay Adelaide North project presented the Flynn manufacturing team with several sizable challenges.
The glazing team needed safe and unrestricted access to the interior side of the frame so they could apply a silicone seal across the full width. But there was the small problem of the frame weighing 1,800 pounds.
Several innovative options were tested and reviewed by key members of the design, tech services and manufacturing teams. In the end the best solution was to raise the frame and create a
space of six feet for our team to work in. To raise (and hold) an 1,800 pound frame in the air and allow team members to work safely and efficiently underneath it, a hoist typically used for lifting cars was incorporated into the glazing lines.
With the skills of our maintenance team, the hoists were fitted with sections of the glazing rail line – allowing a single operator to seamlessly handle the frame throughout the entire process.
At the time of this article, the team is producing the 23rd floor, having completed over 2,600 frames of this 32-storey tower in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District.
